you never go into a movie thread to read SCBs (or whoever's) review before seeing the movie? i do.

me too - but I stopped going into the cabin in the woods thread so I wouldn't learn the supposed twist. Usually I don't care though

I do too, but I expect that I could be spoiled. I just don't see how "2 weeks" or whatever is a) easier to manage or b) much more fair.

whatever the time frame - as an avid a1 review reader, there's usually a 2 week period of time where people go see the movie and then come back and give their take without giving too much away. after that the spoilers get much bigger.

Right, and I think that's kind of silly. I saw "The Avengers" on the Saturday after it was released. I don't see why we should spoiler our discussion until two week (or whatever) before we start talking without using those tags. To me, that would be a more reasonable and consistent standard. I mean, look how many times the use of the spoiler tags comes up as either an annoyance or as a, "I don't know if I'm supposed to use these..." type thing.

There have also been quite a few times I've seen people posting something then get bitched at for not spoiler tagging it. It's happened to myself a number of times.

I get what you are saying though. Again, my issue is it's a lot harder for some people to get out and see the movie opening week end. Wasn't it Chu's who didn't see Avengers till like...week 4 or 5?

As to your first comment, that's also part of the reason it would be a lot easier to throw the post-release threads wide open than have people worry with when to spoiler tag or whether they are doing it too much etc.

I myself avoid threads about movies after they release that I haven't seen yet and plan on it such as Prometheus for the simple fact of I don't want to risk spoilers but I bet some people go in looking for just reviews so....I dunno. Spoilers have always been an iffy subject that varies from person to person on how they should be handled. After all I've had people flip shit when in a movie discussion myself or someone in it casually drops that:

Despite the fact that those two movies have been out since 1999. You'd think it's ok to reveal and that nobody can get pissed but they do...

you watch every movie the same weekend it comes out?

i don't know if 2 weeks is the right amount of time. i just threw that out there.

No, but someone does and once a thread is created I think they should be able to discuss it freely. The length of time isn't the issue. The issue is that it makes more sense (to me) to say that the thread either has spoilers or doesn't. Expecting to handle it by saying, "Well after X weeks, it's OK" just isn't as simple.

I saw a Walmart exclusive movie Thor and Iron Man that looked pretty awesome today. The Thor is great looking, I actually want to buy it. I'm not sure, but it appeared to be repackaged Marvel Select figures based on the pics I see on Ebay.

For me it's not so much a "time" thing as it is a thread length. Like said before we're like 6 pages in. I was only using spoilers because we were discussing stuff in potential sequels.

Then again, so far into a thread in a forum marked Geekville...

no, those aren't MS. They are 6" ML size figs. The cap, iron man, and thor MIGHT be repackaged or at least repaints from previous movie line releases. i don't think we've seen that loki before. the hawkeye and hulk are definitely new.

Cool, thanks. I like the packaging on them. Had I had the $ and space I may have picked Thor and IM up today. I try to only purchase wrestling figures now and I've gotten much more selective there too.

They've already said the next wave of Marvel movies won't directly tie-in with the Avengers. So the chances of Ant-Man creating an android that Iron Man decides should look like Agent Coulson is pretty slim.

The nerd part of me would probably like it, but the movie goer part would hate to see a new character introduced that conveniently looks like an old character and not have it be an important part of the plot.

Spoilers - it's been out for over a month and made well over a billion dollars. Everyone who's going to see the movie has already seen it and if you haven't you're going out of your way not to. I find it hard to feel sorry for someone having something spoiled when they click on Page 7 of a movie thread. Also, there's no way I'm going to go spoil free on anything from 10 years ago. 2002-2012 covers a lot of ground.

I like the idea of a mod adding a Spoiler Warning to the thread title, but outside of the comic book movies is this really an issue? Couldn't we just duplicate the Avengers/Avengers Assemble threads? SCB does a pretty good job of keeping his reviews spoiler free so if the thread is in General Discussion we tread lightly and if it's in Geekville chances are we've already been scrounging up information and leaks ahead of time.

saw some of these in walmart today. movie loki is meh. iron man is a battle damaged version of the triangle chest iron man from the IM2 line. i grabbed the cap. that was all they had. i really want the hulk.

I took dad to see it on Saturday as a late Father's Day present. He loved it and said it was "even better than he thought it would be." He also added that "Thor is just cool."

I picked up that Walmart Thor finally and it's awesome.
